9th Grade College Prep Timeline
Students:
Remember that every grade you get from now on counts on your high school transcript!
Colleges and universities will use the information on this document to decide whether or not you may go to school there.
A college preparatory student should take the following classes during their high school career:
- 4 years of English
- 3 years or more of mathematics (Should have at least Algebra II and preferably through Pre-Calculus)
- At least 2 years of the same foreign language (We have some schools that suggest 3)
- 3 years of science
- 2 years of history/social studies (Most colleges want you to have 1 year of American History)
- 2 years of additional core (English, math, science, social studies, and foreign language) coursework
Total of 16 core courses - You should average 4 core courses a year. Students who plan on going to college take difficult courses to prepare themselves for the academic rigor of college.
Update your SEOP (4-year plan) with your counselor.
Keep track of grades and coursework with the High School Planner in UtahMentor.
Shoot for A's and B's in all of your classes. Doing well in all your classes improves your chances of passing the UBSCT, graduating from high school, getting into college, and will also help with college entrance exams, such as the ACT and/or SAT.
Create a college planning file that contains the following:
- Copies of report cards
- Awards
- Honors
- Extracurricular activities (Teams, clubs, etc.)
- Volunteer work
You will use this information to fill out college applications and scholarships.
